Title: Blade Runner
Post by: Dave Winfield on May 04, 2014, 10:55:02 AM
Voted the best Sci-Fi film of all time.
Probably my favorite too...definitely one of my own top ten Sci-Fi films.

I hate comparing stuff like this...hard to say that Blade Runner is better than a movie like Forbidden Planet
since it was made at a much different time, with different technology and for a different audience.

Anyway....Blade Runner....

my own models include miniature versions (KoolWheelz Collection) of the "ground" Police Cars ("Ground Spinners")
*the modified early versions of the Spinner, now non-flying.

Blade Runner Detective Deckard's unmarked ground car:

and the marked Police version

Both free downloads from the KoolWheel Collection:

I'm hoping one day to try to add a flying Spinner (to the collection)!

Doumier Smith has produced a wonderful larger scale version of the flying Spinner car.

Its a tricky build...not an afternoon project.
And it requires using extra clear plastic to form all the curved window surfaces.
I had a lot of trouble with this, but that might be my lack of skill.

Colours, textures and artwork are top notch.
Well worth the free download!

Ron Kemp also produced a slightly simpler and smaller version of the flying Spinner.
Another free model...

Blade Runner is in the Top 3 on my list. Top 10 includes Space Odyssey 2001, Lost in Space (original series), Sapphire and Steel, one or two films from Star Wars series, couple of Aliens, Silent Running, AI, Brasil (is it sci-fi?) - too funny list I'll have to stop now and think again.

I have all the spinners and have thought of building them. I also have the Fujimi kit in plastic. Looks nice, has great decals but unfortunately has some errors that needs some fixing. But that's modeling. I'll probably try the Mr. Smith version as my next model.

Well, I am sorry to say I do not agree with your "top ten sci-fi" list Tappi.
Lost in Space, the TV series is obviously not supposed to be in a Sci-Fi movie list! lol
...and other than the Robot and SciFi aspect, it was an annoyingly awful show.
I'm not a Star Wars fan...but I would put (only) the first film into the list.
Same goes for Alien...the sequels were just crap, action with no substance, in my opinion.

Ten of my favorites:  Blade Runner, The Day the Earth Stood Still, Forbidden Planet, Alien, 2001,
Star Wars, Star Trek II, Independence Day, War of the Worlds, The Matrix

but, sidetracked again...LOL...back to Blade Runner

I was going to add Uhu's Blaster model (Deckard's Police Gun)
but first off, its a model that I was unsuccessful at building.
In fact, I have yet to see another built version of it.
AND...Uhu doesn't apparently wish to share it with the general public,
so the only way you can get it is through unauthorized sharing
on website's like this one:

I say "unauthorized, because I am not aware that Uhu has given any permission.
But I got the above link from, so maybe they know?

Now, heres a model I can share:
its another version of the ground Spinner (Police Car) in a plain white unmarked version.
Its a little simpler than mine, but also a little easier to build.

I said I have to think that list through again. LOL. Lost in Space was an innocent childhood memory giving me the first thought of 'what if'. But you must agree that our origin is in the stardust, that's what we are, so doesn't the title after all say it all even today.  ;-)

Here are couple of Blade Runner links to to list.

Unicorn: (

Simple models: (

What I would like to see is an 'Off World Blimp' (the advertising airship model. I've seen some made of scratch but a paper model would be awesome.

Off the last link, most of those are from New Zion Films site (I actually did the bus from there once, but back when it was JLH something  or other).  Not BR related, but I've been meaning to do his gyroplane ... eventually

Did you see the Lost in Space movie?
I really enjoyed it...I've seen it 3 or 4 times, and I own the DVD.
Anything with Gary Oldman is worth watching I think.
I thought the ship and new Robot were well done, as were the costumes
and storyline.
Only thing I didn't like about it, is the childish CGI monkey alien thingy.
I guess it was to appeal to the younger audience, but it was extremely
silly and an annoying character that even my young daughter didn't like.
It reminds me of the Jar Jar Binks catastrophe.

anyway...good BR finds guys!

I will have to make a paper unicorn.
And display it next to my Harrison Ford signed Blade Runner movie!

Not yet but it's on my list - maybe today. Yesterday I watched the Man of Steel film. And tried to build windscreens for the Batmobile.

Another Blade Runner model to add to the list...
this time, its another one fo mine!

To go with my KoolWheelz versions of the Ground Spinner cars
I have finally got around to doing a Flying Spinner.

Its well stylized...and miniature of course...but I had fun creating it.

Find it in the Starz Carz section of KoolWheelz models at (Dave's Card Creations)
