1-33 scale AT-6 Texan & Harvard
« on: July 05, 2012, 07:25:05 PM »
And here is the first of many AT-6 Texans!

I decided to start out with a nice clean metal finish Texan.
Just thought it was such a clean and tidy looking aircrcaft.
And I love the "X" prefix!

and...another Texan.

This is a civilian version that was actually owned by the Father of one of our papermodeling pals, Mark Johnson.
Thats his Dad on the cover...Walter Johnson, back in 1963!

I thought it was a pretty cool looking paint scheme
and theres probably not much chance of too many civilian aircraft
considering all the Military requests. lol

Bud Granley's Golden Hawk
[Bud Granley Family Airshows)

With Bud Granley's permission, I have recreated his aerobatic Texan.
Bud used to be an RCAF pilot, and has painted his Texan in the RCAF Golden Hawks Aerobatic Team paintscheme.
This is a fantasy paint job...the Golden Hawks never flew Harvards or Texans.
But its still a great tribute to the RCAF and the Golden Hawks.

Little bit of a hold up getting this model completed...
I needed to redesign the rear Cockpit Canopy part.
Its always been a frustrating piece...and although the paper part can be nicely formed (with patience) into
the curved, bubbled window it should be, its quite another matter when you try to install some clear acetate
to make a clear canopy.

Anyway, with Mike Dixon's input, I have created a new part that is extremely easier to install.
Yes, it does lose the bubble curve of the actual canopy, but I think its a an okay tradeoff.
The part looks pretty good, installs a heck of a lot easier and allows for a simple no seam clear modification.

[I will be updating all my Texan kits with this new Canopy part.]

...

Great little feature on Bud Granley.
Watch it all!.. but watch for theT6 info at the 6min mark.

I never would have thought olive/blue camo would look good, but this is a stunning model.  Thanks

yeah, it doesn't look half bad!

Mike's print came out a little bluer than what the file is...he says is tends to oversaturate his prints
to get more brilliant colour (or something like that). Either way, it still looks pretty good.

well it seems I made a little goof in my paper model shop (www.papermodelshop.com)

I am supplying some sets of build photos to help anyone with their assemblies.
You can download them from my How-To help page.
The available photo sets include a free download of photos for the Golden Hawk Texan.

However, it seems I accidentally linked the Golden hawk photos download to an actual copy of the Golden Hawk model.
(The model that is for sale at ecardmodels!)

I have since fixed that link. lol

So...to the three people who downloaded the model...and didn't say a word to me about the error
all I can say is, I hope you enjoy the free model and remember that its an older test version of the
model and is lacking a copy of updates. But I'm sure it will still build fine.

Contact me if you need those updates...

Hi Dave.  Thanks for all the work you are doing on this site and the papermodelshop site.  I downloaded the build tutorials (no, I did not get a free model) - they are great references and are appreciated by us who are learning.

Regards,
John

Thanks John...is there a significance to the Beaver in your avatar?

Regarding the avatar, it just seems to me to represent everything I enjoy about living in the Yukon.  I have flown as a passenger with the owner (in his Beech Staggerwing, tho' not yet in the Beaver, and in a Bell 47 with him within days of my arrival in Yukon over 30 years ago) and have always enjoyed seeing that particular aircraft in action.  Jim with DGA happened to do that Beaver in card also.

I am just drawn to the red/orange/yellow spectrum of colour (love those RCAF trainers and rescue aircraft  ;D).

Regards,
John
