Canada Paper Modelers Newsletter
« on: August 03, 2012, 06:08:34 PM »
I'd like to try putting out a newsletter for cpm.

Not sure how quickly...not sure how complicated...not sure if there will be more than one.
As a graphic designer, I want to have fun with a layout.
I plan on creating a PDF attachment that I can distribute to all cpm members and those interested.

I am open to suggestions for the newsletter.
General ideas for layout, theme, etc?
But more importantly, ideas for articles and filler.
If anyone wants to submit an article, story, whatever...bring it up here or send me an email.

My initial idea is a tabloid kind of newspaper....maybe more like a magazine...but this could change.
Imagine a "front page" and one , two, three article pages.
Just an idea...if you've seen some sort of newsletter that you like, please pass it along.

I guess it depends on the amount of content I get for the first issue.

Anyway, feedback is welcome...

first request....a name?

many club magazines, newsletters, etc have a name.
like the "the tattler" as a bad example.

could we put a name to the newsletter? or should we?

For example, the IPMS Canada newsletter is called Beaver Tales
and their quarterly magazine is called Random Thoughts.

To be honest, I don't think its real important that the Newsletter have a name,
but the option is there if someone comes up with a good name.

Heres another idea for an article for the first issue...and the request for someone to do it.

I'd like to do an article, maximum 2 pages, with pics, about the RCAF Mustang Squadrons.
Specifically the "City of..." Mustangs.
Short history, info about the specific aircraft. Maybe details on paint schemes?
The kind of stuff a modeler might be interested in.

Since I have two Mustangs in my catalog already (City of London and City of Winnipeg)
I can relate the article to actual paper models.
I'll probably build the City of London, so I can supply some photos of that one.

So, I am looking for someone to write the article or give me the basics of an article.
Let me know if you are interested.

Maybe too corny - CanCard 2 U  ::).  Anyway, I can't volunteer for writing or researching an article right now - maybe in the winter.  For the city mustangs, I had previously seen Leading Edge Model decals had done a number of them, if that helps with a research contact at: http://lemdecal.com/.

Keep up the good work.

Regards,
John

Thanks John...so no other takers for writing me an article?

Oh well, maybe I have to do this myself.

One thing I will be doing is writing up a review of the London IPMS Model Show which I will
be attending in September.
I think this  might also be a good topic for future newsletters.
I invite members to review a local show or model related event.

I am working on the newsletter and hope to have an issue ready by the beginning of October.
That gives you plenty of time to consider contributing.

-bump-

Newsletter is actually done!
I will be sending out the first cpm Newsletter in October!!

One more article to add...that will be a quick review of the 2012 London IPMS Scale Model Show

Unless others are willing to step up with articles for the next Newsletter, I can't guaranty
if or when there will be another...so please think about offering some help.

Another update...

Canada Paper Modelers Newsletter is ready to go, I am just waiting
on some info from the people at the IPMS London show.

Hopefully some time in the next couple of weeks I will send it out.

Reminder...if you want a copy of the newsletter, you need to get
"signed up" at cpm...which is pretty easy. Just visit the "Roll Call" thread
in this Forum and add you basic info to the list.

I just sent out the October cpm Newsletter (by email) to all "members".

The attached PDF file is about 5mb.
If you have any trouble receiving attachments within emails, the email also
contains a download link for the Newsletter PDF.

Please let me know how you receive the Newsletter,
what you think of it,
and if you will be willing to help create the next issue.

so? no feedback at all?
I assume all members got to see the Newsletter
I would really love some feedback.

Is there even a point to doing another?
Did it offer anything
or was it just a casual read?

I have to admit, its a lot of extra work for me
and I don't have a problem with people telling me not to bother with another.
So be honest.
