San Antonio IPMS Model Fiesta
« on: February 07, 2013, 11:03:27 AM »
Calling all Texans!

ModelFiesta 32 at the San Antonio Event Center on February 16, 2013.

From the Alamo Squadron IPMS San Antonio Modeling club web site:
ModelFiesta is the longest running annual modeling event in IPMS Region 6. The first ModelFiesta was held in Wonderland Mall, now called Crossroads Mall, in 1981 and has been held each year since that first contest. The contest has grown in size and quality since its early days and now averages over 120 vendor tables and about 500 - 700 models entered in the contest each year.

Plus a dozen paper models, I may add!

More than winning a prize, giving info on paper modeling is truly rewarding.

Photos to come.

My paper modeling talk was better than I expected. I had people and questions, although I didn't have overhead projector, but it was good.

After setting up my models for display and contest (and my kids' models), I had to rush to the talk. After the talk I realized that the Veterans were already in their table giving autographs.

The night before, on setting up the Event Center with tables and all, I found out that General Gailer was going to be present at the Model Fiesta, so I went ahead and built the fuselage for the P-51 Expectant, but I left the wings for next day. So at the event, I built the wings as "example" of paper modeling, but then I figured I wasn't be able to finish, so I just put the wings, and went to the Veterans' table, and presented the General the un-finished model, but he didn't care! He was, yet again, so excited to see Expectant in 3D. I told him that I would finish it by the next luncheon and fgive the completed model to him.

After lunch I met Robert Turner, AKA 3Turner. We got ourselves in a good chat for some minutes.

Here are some pictures.

Hey Robert, please share your photos!

Next photos... Dr. Grandville Coggs, Tuskegee Airman signing Dave's poster (note the "To: D" written, Dave!).
Then Dr. Coggs showing-off his iPhone 5 expertise to Col. Cole.

Other photos. The San Antonio Event Center turned into a Modeling event. Plastic, plastic everywhere... and not a kit to built! (modified Rime of the Ancient Mariner).

Lt. Col. Grandville Coggs and Sergeant Thomas Ellis talking about their recolections.

And I found ONE paper model for sell... which I bought and plan to build soon. It comes pre-cut, but seems to be a very good one. I will follow the building process from another guy back in PM dot com.

I do hope you plan on scanning that before building.  You never know when a replacement part will be necessary.

Looks like it was a lot of fun.  When is that next luncheon you mentioned?

Yes, Vermin... is a very good kit, and deserves care.

The luncheon with the Pilots is in March, but I still don´t have official date.

haha you got a Tuskegee Airman to sign the Jeesil Peesil poster? lol

(too bad you didn't have any of the Tuskegee Posters.
Maybe I have to make a new one for you?)

Nice to see Gailer again...and its great to see he likes the model.

I assume the short Tail worked on that model?
(you have not answered my emails about that)

maybe you can send me some photos so I can se how that Tail fits?

anyway, I love these photo sessions of yours.
Keep up the great reports Gerardo!!!!!

Tahnk you Dave.

And I still need to reply to you about a couple of changes for Expectant. But give me a few days to cool off.

I still need to think about my entry to the contest.  :-[
