1-16 Scale Centurion Main Battle Tank
« on: October 20, 2014, 11:14:12 AM »
Now available...

1/16 Scale Mk.5 Centurion MBT [Royal Canadian Army Armored Regiment]

Two years in the making.
Lots of hair pulling and teeth gnashing.
End result is more than satisfactory, I think.

Its a big model, its a big project.
Advanced skill level...but only because of the part count (2200+).
I think an average skill builder could tackle this easily.

Its available at www.papermodelshop.com
and here, at ecardmodels.com: http://www.ecardmodels.com/index.php/1-16-scale-centurion-mark-5-main-battle-tank-royal-canadian-army-armored-regiment-1960-paper-model.html

The IDF (Israeli) version of the successful Centurion, better known as the Sho't.
In this case, the "Sho't Meteor"

This is the early version of the Centurion as used by the Israelis in the first half of the 1960s.
[The Sho't Cal" came later, when Israel bought England's remaining Centurion stock and modified
them with extra armour, 105mm main guns, additional secondary weapons and a completely new diesel engine.]

1/16 scale paper model, comes with alternate parts to produce Mk.5, Mk.5.1 and Mk.5.2 versions.
Finished in IDF colours with extra weathering and texture effects.

This kit is a little larger (data file size) than the Canadian Centurion kit due to the extra textures/artwork layering.

Model is available now, just in time for gift giving!
Happy Holidays!

Special offer on this one....I need to see some photos of a built IDF Centurion model.
If you buy this kit, and build it and send me some photos (you are also welcome to post a build thread)
I'll give you a refund*!  (*Actually, I'll give the same cost in free models from my shop)

Get the model here:  www.papermodelshop.com
and at ecardmodels: http://www.ecardmodels.com/index.php/1-16-scale-centurion-mark-5-main-battle-tank-israeli-idf-shot-meteor-paper-model.html

This the third version of the 1/16 Scale Mk.5 Centurion...
and its about time (since it is a British Tank!)

Representing the 4th Royal Tank Regiment of the British Army, in the early 1960s, serving in Berlin, Germany.

The kit is intended as a Mk.5.1 with 20pdr Gun
but upgraded 5.2 parts are included (including 105mm B Barrel)

Alternate Tank markings are also included (you can change the name and serial number)
as well as alternate Squadron markings.

Kut is available now at www.papermodelshop.com
and at ecardmodels.com:

Working on a tri-colour Camouflage (Canadian) Centurion at the moment.
I reluctantly agreed to give this a try.
I knew it would be trouble.
And I now pulling out what little hair I have left!!

Coming soon...thats all I'm gonna say.  lol

...

A Centurion Error Update!
Seems I forgot to include part in the final kit(s).
The part is made up of 4 pieces...and is still in my working files.
I just forgot to move it over onto the final Parts pages when the original (Canadian) kit was released.
This error has of course transferred over to subsequent releases (british and Israeli versions).

Parts in question are numbered 17 and 18.
It is the grill and vanes that cover the rear exhaust vent opening, at the rear of the Hull.
This is a large vent for the Transmission and Engine bays.

The part fits inside the Hull, underneath the rear deck, and is very hard to see.
You could build the model, leave the parts out, and nobody would notice!

But, the fact is, the parts are missing.
So, I have updated the current three Centurion kits.
The files (at ecardmodels) have been updated...if you purchased the model, you can go and download it again.

Or, if you aren't too bothered about downloading the new file (it is quite large)
you can save the file below, which has the missing parts.

Thanks to Nicki Schutt for spotting the error!

After updating the centurion kits...and while working on the latest kit (Tri-Colour Camouflage)
I came across a numbering error in the kit.
The error is in my very first model (Canadian Cent.), so it transferred to the British (Green) and Israeli (Sand) models.

The error has been fixed and the kits updated.
But for anyone who already purchased a kit, heres the info:

On page 74 (or maybe 75 in the brit kit?) you will notice a bunch of parts ...all numbered XX.
(marked in yellow on the image below)
This entire group of parts is the 50 cal. Machine Gun for the top of the Turret.
The parts are numbered in the Instructions, but not on the actual Parts.

The parts are easily identified from the Instruction sheet, so the numbers are really not that important.
This error only affects the parts for the MG assembly, so it won't confuse anything else.

...
An additional note:

On the same page, you will find two parts that are both numbered #75.
(indicated with orange below)
This number is incorrect and has been removed.

The parts are...well, to be honest I have no idea what they are. lol
I recognize the part shapes. I remember using these parts.
But I cannot remember where or how.
They don't seem to appear in the instructions or on my built model.

I have left them on the page in case someone figures out what they are for.
But, I think they may have been from an earlier design and accidentally left there
after I had changed some design elements.
I believe the first part is related to the upper Machine Gun
and the second (lower) part is associated with the Turret Hatches.

These are not important parts, so no need to worry too much.

By special request!...a CAMOed Ceturion!

One of the few Mk5 Centurions in a camo style paint scheme
is this 1970 Canadian Army version.

Basically the same kit, as my other Centurions...
Mk.5 with 5.1 and 5.2 upgrade parts included.
This was not an easy repaint and it is another big file (under 50mb) as a result of the bitmap and artwork layers.
I don't like producing files of this size, but it was necessary to give the model a sort of "lived-in look".

I hope it satisfies the modelers who wanted a camo version of this Tank.

Model is available now at www.papermodelshop.com

and at ecardmodels.com: http://www.ecardmodels.com/index.php/1-16-scale-centurion-mark-5-main-battle-tank-royal-canadian-army-armored-regiment-1960-paper-model-3500.html

IMPORTANT UPDATE to all Centurion Kits currently in the stores.

If you bought a Centurion Kit from me you can deal with this problem yourself by printing some extra parts.
Its that simple really...you just need to REprint a couple of pages.
or
you can contact me for a two-page update/alteration to the kit
just send me a proper email
or
you can demand a complete updated PDF for the kit.
also, send me an email

If you purchased from ecardmodels.com, you can log into your account
and re-download the Centurion file (that you purchased).
You will autmatically get the latest updated version of the file.

...
Whats the problem?:
The Centurion Tank (and model) has four upper Track Guide/Return Rollers mounted on either side of the Hull.
Shown here, in one of the Centurion assembly diagrams.
I miscounted when assembling the pages for the kit, and there are only enough parts to assemble 6 of the Return Roller assemblies.
I also noted on the bottom of the Instruction page (Pg8) that only 6 assemblies are needed. [X6]

I have updated Page 8 (Instructions) to say "8" Return Roller assemblies are required.
as shown below

And I have modified and replaced Pages 49 and 50 (Parts) with the correct number of parts.

*You must now print Page 49 once, and print Page 50 twice...to provide the necessary parts.

This update applies to all variants...any of the Centurion kits in the store.
Each kit has of course been updated accordingly (with the correct colours/paint scheme)
