P-47 Thunderbolts (Second generation!)
« on: February 26, 2015, 03:23:34 PM »
Thats right...a whole new series of P47 Thunderbolts.

The amazing JUG!  now complete with detailed Cockpit and recessed Wheel Wells.
All new artwork, new parts and many new details.

1/33 Scale...all new Instruction Diagram pages...and a whole new look.

First up...44-32691
This Jug is on display at the Steven Udvar-Hazy Center in Virgnia (Smithsonian Air & Space)
and I got an up close look at this aircraft...got a ton of close up photos...and I figured it was
the perfect candidate for the first of a new series of models.

Finished in a simulated bare metal finish, this P47 features big bold USAF markings and D-Day inspired striping.

Plenty of pics of the the real airplane and the completed model (prototype version...some differences) here:

Sorry to take so long to release these...
they have been ready for quite some time now.

Two new Thunderbolts.
These two kits honour the Tuskegee Airmen 332nd FG.

Before they were known as the "Red Tails"...before the final formation of the composite (Tuskegee Airmen) 332nd...
the 332nd FG based in Italy (in 1944) transitioned from P-39s to P-47s...acquiring its first Thunderbolts as hand-me-downs
from the 325th FG.  Not all the P47s retianed their Olive Drab over Gray paint schemes, some were stripped of colour.
And its know, at least one aircrcaft had its checkered tail artwork (325th) painted over with red paint.
This may have been the first "Red Tail" 332nd aircraft.

I've created two 332nd Jugs, in both O.D over Gray paint and bare metal finish, with the overpainted red tails.
Markings are as they would have been from the 325th, with no aircraft idents. (Serials were of course painted over on the tails)

Both kits are up now at www.papermodelshop.com
and at ecardmodels...

New release...a new Thunderbolt!

This one, another special request, and a somewhat unique aircraft.
This P-47 was used by the Wright-Patterson AFB to warn away Civilian aircraft over the Wright Test Field
(since most civilian aircraft in 1948 were not equipped with radios).
The plane wore the basic USAAF unpainted finish with large warning banners painted on either side of the fuselage.

Kit is in the shops now.
Find it at www.papermodelshop.com
And here, at ecardmodels: http://www.ecardmodels.com/index.php/1-33-republic-f-47d-p47d-thunderbolt-wright-patterson-afb-warning-aircraft-paper-model.html

But every time I got ready to publish, something else came along to do!

1947 Air Racer P-47D Thunderbolt...converted to YP-47M...owned by entrepeneur Milton Reynolds and flown by WW2 hero Bill Odom.
Basically a tribute to his Reynolds Bombshell (around the world) aircraft.
1/33 scale paper model.

Available now at www.papermodelshop.com
and ate ecardmodels.com: http://www.ecardmodels.com/index.php/1-33-republic-p-47-thunderbolt-reno-air-racer-reynolds-bombshell-bill-odom-paper-model.html

And, heres a new one!...

Thunderbolt 44-33133 is owned and flown by Flying Heritage Collection of Everett Washington
and recreates one of the six Tallahasses Lassie's flown by Col. Ralph C. Jenkins of the 510th Fighter Squadron (in WW2).
Col. Jenkins led the 510th, based in England, and was involved in an attack on German Field Marshal Erwin Rommel's convoy
that most likely resulted in severe injuries to Rommel. Jenkins himself had fired directly on Rommel's Staff Car.

Tallahassee Lassie is available now at papermodelshop.com and at ecardmodels.com

Its been a while, but two new P47s are ready to be released...
and first up is War Eagle/SNAFU.

This aircraft was suggested to me by a forum member since a replica of SNAFU flies today.
After doing a bit of research, I decided to do an early version of the original WW2 Fighter.

Flown by Capt. Julius Maxwell, War Eagle was veteran of more than 130 missions.
Later piloted by Lt. Severino Calderon, the name SNAFU was added to the aircraft aswell as another 90 missions!
The plane was lost late in 1944 when it crashlanded while on lend to another pilot.

I decided to go with the mid 1944 appearance, just before Invasion Day striping was added to the aircraft.
On a side note, the current flying replica SNAFU features full wrap around D-Day striping, whereas the original
War Eagle/SNAFU only showed lower half black and white striping.

Sorry....I haven't built this one, so I don't have any model photos to show you.
If anyone wants to build this plane and supply us with some images, the model is available (free) for that purpose.

To buy a copy of War Eagle/SNAFU, visit www.papermodelshop.com  and/or www.ecardmodels.com

Another 8th AF Jug!

The famous Robert Johnson.  No, not that Robert Johnson.
This Robert Johnson scored 27 victories flying Jugs in WW2 and was the first ETO pilot to
surpass WW1 Ace Eddie Rickenbacker's record of 26 Victories in aerial combat.

Johnson's mission are legendary and he survived some pretty scary dogfights.

You can get the model now at www.papermodelshop.com
and at ecardmodels.com: http://www.ecardmodels.com/index.php/1-33-republic-p-47d-thunderbolt-lucky-robert-johnson-paper-model.html

You can see a quick build of this model by our own Gerardo (milenio) here:

...finally got this one finished!

It took a while, and I appreciate all the input here on the forums (regarding markings and colours).

This is a Mark 1 (P-47D) Thunderbolt of the RAF.
However, this is one of two Jugs that did not make it to Burma (where all the other RAF P47s went).
Instead, it stayed in England as a testing aircraft...and wore standard RAF colours.

I really like the larger and and more brightly coloured markings, thats why I went with this version.

Model is available now at www.papermodelshop.com
and at ecardmodels.com:  http://www.ecardmodels.com/index.php/1-33-scale-republic-p-47d-p47d-mark-1-thunderbolt-raf-fl844-paper-model.html
