Album Covers
« on: September 20, 2015, 09:27:01 AM »
On that other forum...there is a discussion about cool Record Album Covers.
Back in the day...when music came on 12" vinyl discs, in really cool cardboard sleeves,
with big artwork and photos, and creative packaging.

Since I was a teenager in the 1970s, I am very familiar with these creative Album Covers.
And one of my all time favorits was Monty Python's Instan Record Collection.

I still have this album...the cover opens like a regular gatefold cover,
revealing the backside to be about 4 layers thick.
With a pull...and a twist...and a pull... the backside unfolds into a box.
The front of the album closes into the box to create a cube
and its all decorated (photographically) to look like a huge stack of record Albums.

Its a Record Album...its art...and its a paper model!

I thought it might be cool to turn some of these Album Covers into paper models.
How? I don't know.
But if you are fan of this almost forgotten artform, then maybe you can come up with some ideas.

In the meantime, heres my offering...

That is really cool.  And being anything Python related, it is going near the top of the stack

Am I reading this correctly that it will also fold flat?  Nifty

What? the real Album? or the model?

The Album folds flat...it opens like a book with no pages.
But the back cover is actually the compressed box (minus the front face).
The front cover has flaps on the edges, and closes the box (when assembled)

The model should crease and fold in the same way, however I did not attempt
to build it that way. I just assembled mine as a cube and glued it shut.
(My original idea was just a scale cube with this artwork, but I decided to omit the scale measures)

I just updated the file to show the folding album assembly
and I added a mini Vinyl disc.

On the topic of "album covers", heres a little sidetrack...

came across this list of the "21 most ridiculous Yugoslav album covers".
Just that title alone peaked my interest!
lol
But the covers themselves really are some of the most awful things you've ever seen on an album cover.
I can't believe these artists didn't proof the photos before they were used?!
#5 is hilarious.

An example...
this must a be a collection of sad songs? lol
