Zoe's Jurassic Christmas
« on: December 03, 2016, 11:25:18 PM »
My son's girlfriend's girl Zoe just turned six, and I did some Star Wars paper toy figures for her for her birthday since she is a SW fan.

I asked her what she wanted for Christmas, and she said dinosaurs.  I asked her if she had seen the Jurassic Park movies and she said the first one was really good, but didn't like the others.  Smart girl.

Here's the original game plan:

Dinosaurs planned are the  kamikami.jp dino's from http://web.archive.org/web/20061214035445/http://www.kamikami.jp/index.html

Patrick Pasques's Explorer from http://www.maquettes-papier.net/forumenpapier/topic6886.html

The Jeep, which I may have to upgrade at http://pauloomarcio.deviantart.com/art/jeep-wrangler-of-Jurassic-Park-185345302

The gate from PaperToys Clemper, which is only available from pirate sites, but I'll post the Wayback Machine link that no longer gets you a valid link, http://web.archive.org/web/20111111114226/http://papertoysclemper.blogspot.com/2011/08/welcome-to-jurassic-park-new-jurassic.html

Would it be inappropriate to add a goat or cow to the set?  Probably

The trick to the dinos is to mirror print on the back so that you don't have the obnoxious white showing on the insides

The jeep turned into a disaster.

I took bumpers from one of Jesse's Papercruiser Jeeps and scaled to fit, taking care of the stupid front overhang, but this thing has too many issues

The hood is too long for the sides.  The grill is too tall for the sides.  And then ...

A rear bumper and spare tire won't fix that ...

Odd, but the camera really did not want to focus today

Also tweaked the file to be 'sand grey', with JP Jeep wheels, somewhat better graphics to look more jeep-like, changed the number to '10', with the id tags, and changed the hood graphics.  Printed and coated, but not scored, yet.  Might get it done tonight

Were there jeeps in Jurassic parK or just those Ford Explorers?
I only ask, because I could do a JP Jeep adapted from my Daisy Duke jeep.

Dixie's Jeep is a 70's jeep, while these were the new smaller jeeps

The principal jeeps from the first movie all have decal kits available for plastic models.  I lifted those for my personal models.

Supposedly there is a scene where Jeep 10 has it's top up, but I don't remember it.  Only Nedry's final ride has the top up and the front rooftop light bar.

I appreciate the offer, but this is for a 6-year-old to play with, too.  At least these things are fairly solid.

My first two will probably end up in the rubbish bin, since I've been upgrading the model to at least be a bit closer. but still boxy, with artwork to give a more jeep-like appearance

Okay, when you start polishing a coprolite, you end up with a polished coprolite.

At least it is acceptable now

Got the #18 Jeep done and Pat's JP Explorer, and now it is time for dinos

I  knew that the Explorer would be good, because I'd done it before, only smaller.  I hope that this also demonstrates why I like the Kamikami dinosaurs

I've got five more dinos printed and tried my hand at making velociraptors in this style.  Found a clean image from the back of a South American phone card.  They look good on the template, but I haven't printed it off yet.  I believe in Spielberg-land the females are less colorful, so I'm debating on varying the colors, but on the other hand, weren't they all supposed to be female originally?

Okay, they got moved to the top of the pile.  Not bad for a test build, if I say so myself

I should have updated this earlier.  Did a couple more of the kamikami dinos and another raptor and after doing the tree, I realized it needed enlargement and better attachment for the leaves.  Latest version is printed and scored, but not built yet.  I got sidetracked making a brachiosaur.  I still may do a stegosaur, because 'who doesn't like stegosaurs'.
