1/500 Skyscrapers Collection
« on: January 29, 2017, 04:26:05 AM »
Hello everybody. This is my first post here and I would like to share my models with you. Since I time ago I am working in designing and building my own skyscrapers at 1/500 scale. Now I have completed two: One Liberty Plaza and HSBC Bank Building (both of NYC).
Here is the result:

Very nice.  On some of the skyscrapers out there, they are either too clean or in trying to look 'real' they get a muddled appearance.  You have hit a very nice balance.  What type of structure do you use to prevent warped sides?

Thank you  ;)
I use cork sheets to give stiffness to the facades. It can be seen in other videos.
To be honest, when I design the buildings, they are always perfectly clean in the AutoCAD interface. It´s when I print the model when the textures and the colors vary slighty. That merit belongs to my printer. In fact,  I wish the resolution was more than 2400ppm.

What do you use for source material? Are you able to obtain architectural drawings of these buildings somehow?

Hi,

I check the official height/floors in this web: Emporis.com. Here sometimes appear other measures such as the roof height and the architectural height.
Also, I look for floor plans in internet. Some buildings have their own web and there can be seen pdfs with that information.
The rest is just by studying many pictures and with Google Earth and Street view.
It´s a mixture of all that. All that information is put together into AutoCAD and with patient, I can design the building. But honestly, the real dimensions are only the height and the width. The rest is just aprox.
