Posting and attaching Images
« on: July 02, 2017, 11:02:42 AM »
Two options for including photos and images in your threads:

I just added a new photo Attachment option to the forum...
we'll see how it goes.

I have disabled the "attachment" option that is built into the forum
since it uses up valuable storage space.
This forum is donated/hosted by ecardmodels.com and has limited storage space available to it for free.
I don't wish to put any greater demands on the site or the generous donator.

Adding photos to your posts and threads is easy with the Insert Image feature
- use it to link to your online stored photos. (Flikr, Google, Facebook, Imgur, etc)
(Explained further below)

But some of you don't use online photo storage and wish to add your photos as attachments in your posts.
You can now do this simply by "adding photos" using the "add image to post" option shown under the Post Editor.

You don't have to store the photos anywhere online, they are uploaded directyl from your computer.
You do not have to register or log-in to any website.

Once you click, a small window will appear where you can upload your image.
Just click the "choose image" button, search your own files for an image,
and upload that image or images.

Images are added as thumbnails inline in your posts...
so you can continue typing and adding to your post after the image thumbnails.
In other words, they are not added, like attachments at the very end of your post.
Although, you can cut and paste (move) them (within the editor) to anywhere within your post.

Online stored Images

The best way to add images to your post and have them be visible in your post (not as a linked/clickable thumbnail)
is to store your photos online and use the Image insert option.

This requires you to store your images somewhere else like photobucket, imgur, flikr, facebook, google, etc etc

You'll need to copy an address for the image...
this can be done by copying the linking address supplied by the image host
or right clicking an image, and copying the "image address" (url location).

To insert an image in your post using that link, click the small Image icon near the top left of the post editor.

Paste the address you already copied into the img-/img tags.
Make sure you post the entire image address between the tag brackets!

Your image will appear at whatever full size it is directly in your post
(so make sure your images are a reasonable viewing size, like 800x600 or less)

Testing a new site...anyone got any knowledge of this one?

I like the fact that its free and you can create searchable albums and categories like photobucket.
It also displays different posting options for each image.

Using the "direct link" and the insert image on this forum:

Years ago on some other forums, tinypic was the go-to for posting images.  Maybe their time has come again

tinypic scares me...looked good at first, until I found out it is the original photobucket.
owned and still operated by photobucket.
will it continue? will it continue as it is? I wish I could find out.

...
imageshack looks like a good option too.

I haven't settled on a new image host yet.
whatever i find might be of interest to others?
so, I am going to test a few sites...I'll post the results.

...
I am trying imagetwist.
Has some good features with albums and thumbnails and easy codes.
Plus, its a free service with a premium option.
Also interesting in that it pays money for certain types of image sharing.

For now, I am just interested in whether it works as an image host.
Heres a couple of pics...just straight forward direct link codes to show images right here in the thread.
Let me know if you see them okay...or what do you see?...and is there anything you don't like?

The second image doesn't show.  There is a placeholder that says 'Hotlinking is disabled.'

That is odd...since both images posted in the same manner.

What about now?

The codes provided by imagetwist don't appear to work (for me).
But I do see the image using the right click/copy image address method.

LOL this is whack.

makes no sense, why some images appear and others don't *using the same codes.

I tried two other image hosts but didn't get too far.
I may be just going back to Imageshack.
Their basic pay plan seems to make the most sense.

okay....these photos are linked from my new imageshack account.
lets see if things work okay (before I sign up for a paid subscription)

A couple of previously posted images...do you see them okay?
And, what happens when you click on an image? (I'm assuming they are not clickable)
So, what happens if you right click, and post the image address in your browser? Where does it take you?
I ask, because I don't want to link to an entire album.

I see these two images, I cannot click on them, and if I right click for properties, the location takes me to that image, not an album
