28 mm Wargame Zis-5 Proxy
« on: December 17, 2017, 04:11:11 PM »
Coyotepunc at Cardboard Warriors forum has a circa-WWII game scheduled during the holidays.  Russians, Chinese and Partisans in Manchuria.  I'm not sure if the game specifically calls for a Zis-5, or if he just wanted it, but he tried to turn GM64's 1930's pickup into a Zis-5 proxy, http://inkjetpaperscissors.blogspot.com/2012/07/1930s-cars-pickup-truck.html

His attempt was less than satisfactory, and asked if anyone would like to try to fix his model.  Before opening my mouth, I wanted to see if there were any images I could find that would help me out.  And when I found a sideview (on the known pirate haven, Pinterest), I went on a hunt for the source site, and found http://www.o5m6.de/, Engines of the Red Army and Wehrmacht.  At least they give the artist credit and claim to have permission.  Eh.

With that info, I volunteered to do a quick fix on his model.  When I sent it to him, he immediately went to the printer's shop and printed it off, even though I called it 'just a quick fix' and told him that by this weekend I could come up with something better.

I worked a bit more on it last night and built it today

Okay, not a great model of a Zis-5, but given a base pickup model, and various artwork of Mr. N. Polikarpov, originally from M-Hobby magazine, and the goal of merging them for an easy-build proxy of a Zis-5, I think it came out pretty good.  Fun little project

This is Mr. Polikarpov's art that I based the changes on, http://www.o5m6.de/redarmy/zis_5.php
